Emmett Wade Dies Instantly As Car Hits Abutment Of Overpass

SWEETWATER, Aug. 12. -- At 4 a.m. Wednesday, Emmett Wade, 35, native of Sweetwater, met instant death when an automobile in which he was riding with W. H. Corder, crashed into the concrete abutment of the Texas & Pacific overpass. Corder has a broken ankle, cuts and other injuries.

Neck Broken

Wade's death was caused by a broken neck. He was found dead beside his car, when A. F. Newsome, who lives near the overpass, reached the scene of the tragedy, having heard the crash. Engine of the car was telescoped into the body of the machine. Corder was taken to the hospital by a motorist.

Surviving Wade are his mother, Mrs. B. F. Wade, four sisters, Mrs. H. E. McDonald, Lucille and Frances Wade of Sweetwater, and Mrs. Allen Brensfield [sic Brincefield] of Pampa; two brothers, George and Cecil, of Sweetwater. Funeral rites will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday. He was an employee of the Wade Packing company here, but not related to the Wades whose name that concern bears.
