Mr. Emmons “Shine" Grant

Christiansburg, Virginia - Mr. Emmons “Shine” Grant departed from this world into heaven surrounded by love, with both daughters present, on June 27, 2014 at his residence in Christiansburg, VA at the age of 85.

Mr. Grant, characterized by friends as a “real Southern gentleman”, was born in Carroll County, Mississippi on December 12, 1928. He was the devoted husband of Mattie Sue Turner Grant (deceased), father of Dawn Grant Hight (husband Tim Hight) of Christiansburg, VA. and Melodee Grant Coleman of Charlotte, N.C., and grandfather (Poppy) of Whitney, Lindsey, Timothy, Valory, and Courtney.

Mr. Grant proudly served our country in the United States Air Force (USAF) and National Guard and was a civilian instructor for over 30 years in the USAF and Navy.

An avid fan of westerns, particularly Gunsmoke, Mr. Grant also enjoyed comedies, especially the Andy Griffith Show when his granddaughter Courtney was present. His favorite Barney Fife quip was “nip it in the bud”. Mr. Grant loved the Lord and was involved in the local church up until recent years when he became a homebound member of Grace Life Baptist Church.

A Celebration of Life for Mr. Grant will be held graveside at Liberty Baptist Church, 3772 County Road, Carrollton, Mississippi on July 9, 2014 at 3 p.m. Visitation will be held 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.
