ENOCH R. WHITTINGTON
Enoch Ray Whittington, 72, of 913 South Link, died at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Cox Medical Center after a long illness.
Mr. Whittington was a lumber inspector for the U.S. Department of Defense for 15 years, after being lumber inspector for a business firm. A native of Natchez, Miss., he and his wife moved to Springfield in 1965 after his retirement.
Mr. Whittington organized a group of retirees into “Christian servicemen” at University Heights Baptist Church. The group helped maintain and repair, the church plant at 1010 South National. He also helped organize and was the first president of Baptist Men.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth; two brothers, Clarence, Woodville, Miss., and Felix, Harbor City, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Percy Clark, Richton, Miss., and Mrs. Vera Lee Billings, Biloxi, Miss.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Eckoff Funeral Home of Appleton City.
