CORTES

Dr. Enrique Emilio Cortes, born on August 22, 1913, in Mexico D.F. passed away July 26th at Golden Manor under the care of Vitas/Hospice.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. & Mrs. Emilio Enrique Cortes, and siblings: Carmela White, Carlos Cortes, Mercedes Cortes, and Esperanza Murchison, all of San Antonio.

He is survived by his children: Henry Dunn of Taylor, Mrs. Victoria Williams of Georgetown, Charles Dunn of Austin, and Mrs. Margaret Ham of San Antonio. Additional survivors are numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews in Central and South Texas.

In 1930, his physician father moved Enrique and family from Pachuca, a mining town in the state of Hidalgo, during a Mexican revolution, and settled in San Antonio. He excelled in his studies at Central Catholic and Jefferson High Schools, local colleges, and Loyola University. He was previously married to Virginia Victoria Rieg (now deceased); while in San Antonio he taught at Our Lady of the Lake. He returned to Mexico in the 1950s and attended medical school graduating from the Universidad National de Medicina followed by a three year residency in neurology. His medical practice ended due to health reasons and he returned to San Antonio in the 1980s. He had an avid interest and participation in classical music that would endure a lifetime. He enjoyed serving as a docent and lecturer at the Institute of Texan Cultures for years. In addition, he regularly attended Grand Rounds (in Neurology) at the UT Health Science Center.

Rosary and Funeral Mass is scheduled for Monday, July 31st, 1:30 PM at St. Lukes Catholic Church, 4603 Manitou Drive. Private burial at San Fernando Cemetery to follow.
