Era Howard Cockerham

Era Howard Cockerham, 87, of Trout, passed from this life on Thursday, January 5, 2012, at the Woods Haven Nursing Home in Pollock.

She was born August 3, 1924 to the union of her parents, Charlie F. and Callie Hawthorne Howard.

Mrs. Cockerham was a beautician and owner of Era's Beauty Shop for 40 years. She attended Ebenezer Baptist Church and Zenoria Baptist Church.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 6, in the Hawthorne Cemetery in the Little Creek Community with the Revs. Huey Tarpley and Ron Nations officiating.

Interment followed under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Ernest Williams and Ray Cockerham; an infant daughter; and a grandson, Jim Sanders.

Survivors include one daughter, Doris Rae Sanders of Hattiesburg, MS; one son, Ricky Cockerham and wife Cindy of Trout; two grandchildren, Mike Sanders and wife Deresa, and Sue Sanders Smith and husband Butch, all of Hattiesburg, MS; eight great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and her caretaker, Bertha Allen.

Pallbearers were Bubba Achord, Nathan Hudson, Mike Sanders, Butch Smith, Ricky Cockerham, Kent Hatfield, Dwan Stringer and Carlton Mills.
