Ernest Nathan Bishop

Ernest Nathan Bishop, 81, of Pensacola went to be with the Lord, January 1, 2002. He was born June 23, 1920 in Jasper County Mississippi.

Mr. Bishop graduated from Ellisville Junior College and Mississippi State University and taught three years at Brooklyn, Mississippi Agricultural High School. Ernest worked with the Federal Government for the Farm Home Administration and Plant Pest Control. He worked on his Master's Degree in Forestry at Louisiana State University and was selected as ``Tree Farmer of the Year'' at Lucedale, Mississippi. After serving in England and Germany during World War II, and then in the Army Reserves, he retired as Major Bishop.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Ruth Omundson Bishop; their two daughters, Linda Amore of Pace and Judy (Joe) Price of Clinton, Mississippi; six grandchildren, Chris, Richard and Kimberly Amore of Pace, Kristy Price of Anchorage, Alaska, Joanna Taylor of Clinton, Mississippi, Amy (Jeremy) Bandre of Columbus, Mississippi; one great granddaughter, Makenna Taylor; and two sisters, Elva Meador and Lillie Montgomery of Laurel Mississippi. Mr. Bishop was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Cora Bishop, two sisters, Bessie and Lenora, and three brothers, Alner, Harvey and Laverne Bishop.

Ernest was a member of Olive Baptist Church and served as a Deacon and Teacher for several years. He retired in 1979 and they enjoyed their tree farm and traveled to all fifty states, provinces of Canada and 13 European countries. Funeral services will be held 10:30 Friday, January 4, 2002, at Olive Baptist Church with Dr. Jerry Passmore and Rev. Eugene Steele officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery with Rev. Ken Griffin officiating.

Pallbearers will be Mr. Bishop's nephews and Honorary Pallbearers will be the Brotherhood Sunday School Class.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Building Fund at Olive Baptist Church or to the Covenant Hospice.
