Ernestine Flowers Beattie
February 27, 1919 - March 7, 2017

Ernestine, 98, passed away at Oakwood Village in Zachary, La on March 7, 2017. She was born in 1919 in Wilkinson County, Mississippi, she is the daughter of John and Vera Flowers.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Beattie; a son, Richard Beattie; sisters, Wilna Scott, Earline Carter, Velee Henderson, Thoris Stutzman, and Polly Atkins; brothers, John E. Flowers, Joe Flowers, and Myrle Flowers; a great grandson, and a great-great granddaughter.

Following the death of her husband, Ernestine began working for Louisiana State University as a housemother at various women's dormitories. This was a fulfilling job for her and she enjoyed sharing stories and experiences about her time on campus. Her greatest love was her family. She looked forward to celebrating holidays, birthdays, and lazy Sunday afternoons as the Matriarch of five generations.

Ernestine is survived by her daughter and spouse; Betty (Donald) Ashford; a daughter-in-law Eleanor Beattie; 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great grandchildren and a brother, Tom George Flowers.

Visitation will be at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA, on Friday, March 10, 2017, from 9:00am until funeral services at 11:00am. Burial will follow.
