SHREVEPORT, LA - Services for Mrs. Ethel Arender Chaler, 75, of Shreveport will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel. Officiating will be Reverend Art Vance, pastor of John Calvin Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Forest Park West. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Monday, April 11, 2005 at the funeral home.

Ethel, a native of Darnell, LA went to be with her Lord at 6:40 a.m., Sunday, April 10, 2005 after a lengthy illness. A wonderful mother, loving wife and devoted Christian, she enjoyed a successful 32 year career with South Central Bell Telephone Co. During this time she and her family lived in many towns and cities throughout Louisiana. Along with career and family, Ethel was an active member of the Order of Eastern Star, Telephone Pioneers of America, Pink Ladies Auxiallary, WMU, White Shriners, Toast Mistress Clubs of America and ABWA of which she was voted ``woman of the year'' in 1972. Ethel served in many capacities with various groups and civic organizations. She was especially proud of chairing the first Cystic Fibrosis Campaign in Winnfield, LA and also at invitation of governor Edwin Edwards to serve on the committee for a Better Louisiana which set priorities for the future of the state. She was also a member of the task force for rape crisis prevention in Shreveport.

Ethel loved to travel and made many friends with her infectious smile, generous spirit and effervescent personality.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Howard Arender of Magee, MS; her parents; three brothers and four sisters.

Ethel leaves to cherish her loving memory a devoted, loving and Christian husband, Mr. C.D. (Clarence) Chaler and his family; four children, Jeanette Ray and husband, Rick, Harry Arender and wife, Shirley, Larry Arender and Jayme Arender; a special twin sister, Edith White and family; four grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be Joey Paruszeski, Jimmy Paruszeski, Brian Blake, Michael Dillinger, Keith Arender, Eric Brookshire, Bill Zeigler and Benoit Lynn.
