INJURIES PROVE FATAL THURSDAY TO EUGENE SMITH

Fatally injured while at work drilling a well near Spencer, in Union parish, Wednesday morning, Eugene E. Smith, 23, of 206 Texas avenue, died yesterday afternoon at 5 o'clock at a local clinic.

Smith suffered a severe fracture of the skull when struck by a half-inch pipe with 3,000 pounds of pressure behind it about 10:30 o'clock Wednesday morning while at work on a well being drilled by the Consolidated Drilling company, according to reports of the accident.

Funeral services were held this morning at 10 o'clock at the Mulhearn funeral chapel with Rev. E. L. Tanner, pastor of the Assembly of God, West Monroe, officiating. Interment followed in the Riverside burial park.

Smith is survived by his widow, the former Miss Mertie Rawls, of Monroe; his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Smith, of Forest in West Carroll parish; two sisters, a Mrs. Allen of Shreveport, and Audie Smith; and the following brothers: Howard, J. T., Jr., Shelby, Dennis and Denham Smith.
