Our beloved Eula Mama passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 24, 2004. During her last days with us, she expressed her overwhelming excitement and readiness to walk hand-in-hand with the Lord. After 47 years of marriage, Eula Mama was preceded in death by her husband, John Simpson, as well as her father and mother, Daniel and Elizabeth McDaniel. Lastly, she was preceded in death by her 11 brothers and sisters. Eula Mama was the last of 12 siblings to pass, but now by the grace of God they are all together again - strong, healthy, and happy.

Eula Mama leaves behind an exceptionally large and devoted family. She is survived by three children, her daughter, Joyce Shepherd of Bossier City, LA; her son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Jean Simpson of Benton, LA; and her daughter and son-in-law, Violet and Jack Key of Columbia, LA. She is survived by her grandchildren, Sheri Simpson of Bossier City, LA, Rob Simpson of Benton, LA, Loree and Eugene Robinson of Columbia, LA, Joe and Sandra Key of Columbia, LA, and Sandra Braddock of Shreveport, LA. Lastly, she is survived by an extraordinarily large extended family - one that gave her enormous amounts of pride and one that she so often bragged about. Eula Mama is survived by 14 great grandchildren, 24 great-great grandchildren, and one great-great-great grandchild.

Eula Mama was a kind, compassionate woman and a loving and generous caregiver throughout her long life. She was a truly devoted sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She adored her family and loved filling her tiny little house with as many of us as she could fit. In addition to her family, Eula Mama loved the church and everything that entailed, serving as a Sunday school teacher for 26 years. Just months before she passed away, she was recognized by First Bossier and Dr. Lowery as the oldest living member of the church family.

Before her passing, the family selected the following loved ones and dear friends to serve as pallbearers, Joe Key, Andy Key, Eugene Robinson, Rob Simpson, Ted Vlas, and Jim Cook. Jack Jackson and Bill Elenburg will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family wishes to thank all of the wonderful doctors, nurses, and specialists who gave of themselves in an effort to make Eula Mama as healthy and happy as possible throughout her long life. We would also like to thank Pat Cook for her time, attention, and patience in her care of Eula Mama as well. But the most special and heartfelt note of thanks goes to the woman who selflessly cared for Eula Mama day in and day out for over 20 years, Joyce Shepherd. Because of your generous commitment and self-sacrifice, she maintained her dignity and quality of life. You were her angel.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made on her behalf to the First Baptist Church building fund.

Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
