Mrs. Browder Dies; Funeral Slated Today

Funeral services have been scheduled for 2 p.m. today in the McClendon Baptist Church of West Monroe for Mrs. Homer L. Browder, 45, of 307 Lyndia St., who died Saturday afternoon in a local hospital as a result of a gunshot wound.

Mrs. Browder was shot early Saturday after reportedly making phone calls to a neighbor to say she was not feeling well and to the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Department. She had been in ill health for several months.

Deputies arrived at the home to find Mrs. Browder lying in the back yard with a head wound from a .22 cal. rifle. She was rushed to the St. Francis Hospital by Kilpatrick Funeral Home ambulance but succumbed around 4 p.m.

Ouachita Parish Coroner Dr. John P. Burton said Mrs. Browder died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Officiating today will be the Rev. D. O. Foster, assisted by the Rev. Lionel Crowell. Interment will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery under direction of Kilpatrick's.

Pallbearers will be G. W. Martin, D. D. Turnage, Ray Anding, Bruce Evans, R. R. McNeil and Isaac Row West.

Surviving Mrs. Browder, in addition to her husband, are a son, Lavelle Browder, and daughter, Lucille Browder, both of West Monroe, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. N. P. Sanders, Urania; and a sister, Mrs. J. B. Frazier of Jena.
