Clothes Catch Fire; Woman Badly Burned

An elderly Jones County matron was rushed to the University Hospital in Jackson Friday morning and her condition was reported critical as the result of severe burns suffered at her home.

Mrs. Eva McDaniel of Sandersville was reported lighting a gas space heater in her home around 8:30 a.m. when the outing nightgown she was wearing caught fire at the hem.

A Laurel ambulance was summoned and she was brought to a local hospital where after emergency treatment, it was learned she was suffering from first, second and third degrees burns on 80 per cent of her back and legs.

Mrs. McDaniel, reported in her eighties, is a widow and lives alone except for an apartment she rents to Mr. and Mrs. Glen Ainsworth. They were at home at the time of the accident and extinguished the flaming gown. She was taken to the University hospital for further specialized treatment.
