Jewel Carter

Evelyn “Jewel” Carter, 81, passed away Monday, May 10, 2010, at Hospice Ministries.

Visitation will be held today from 5pm-8pm at Baldwin Lee Funeral Home in Jackson. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 13, 2010, at 11am in the funeral home chapel with interment at Lakewood South Cemetery.

Mrs. Carter worked with the Hinds County Sheriff's Office for 30+ years and became the first lady Deputy Sheriff of Hinds County. She is a member of the Ms. Law Enforcement Officers Association. She has spent her later years spending time with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Carter is preceded in death by her mother, Josephine Tingle; father, Roy E. Tingle; and brother, Alton Morris.

She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Carter McGinn (Bodgey), Paula Carter Sledge (Dwight), Carolyn Carter Shelby (Jay) and Joyce Carter Williams (friend Richard); 12 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
