Chicot County Resident Dies At Age of 100

Lake Village, Nov. 27 (Spl.) -- Mrs. Fannie Minyard, oldest resident of Chicot county, died at her home near Lake Village early Tuesday morning at the age of 100 years and 14 days.

She was the former Miss Fannie Emmons, and was born November 12, 1846, in Carroll county, Mississippi, coming to Arkansas with her parents at the age of 12. The family lived on Bayou Bartholomew, and she was an active worker in the Baptist church from an early age, often riding horseback to remote sections to assist persons who were ill.

She was married in 1860 to P. L. Hightower, a Confederate soldier who lost his life during the Civil war. Two daughters of this marriage, Mrs. H. L. Windham of Beggs, Okla., now 83 years old, and Mrs. Annie D. Patterson of Charleston, Miss., survive. Three other children of her second marriage to Everette Minyard also survive. They are Mrs. A. T. Bell, Lake Village, Mrs. J. W. Kent, Hollandale, Miss., and J. M. Minyard, Holcomb, Miss.

Mrs. Minyard, who read widely and was well informed, had been unusually active until about three years ago. In recent years here sight and hearing had been impaired.

Other survivors include 54 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren and two great-great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held this afternoon in Carroll county, Mississippi.
