Doughty
Findly (Fin) Miles Doughty , devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2011.
Findly was born April 5, 1921, in Harrisonburg, LA, and grew up in Monroe, LA. He graduated from Neville High School in 1936 and went to work in the City of Monroe Engineering Dept. In early 1940 he moved to Washington, D.C. to work in the Navy's Electrical Engineering Design Dept.
Fin received an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy, where he graduated in the class of 1946. Upon graduation he served aboard the U.S.S. Bremerton.
In 1947, after completion of his naval service, Fin accepted employment at Esso's Baton Rouge Refinery and married Edith Turner of New Orleans. He held a number of engineering and executive assignments in Baton Rouge, New York, Houston, Coral Gables, FL, and Montevideo, Uruguay, before retiring from Exxon in 1979.
In 1980, Fin joined Calcasieu Refining Co. as the vice-president and became President in 1984. In 1998 he retired to devote more time to his family and to travel.
Findly is survived by his wife of 63 years, Edith; two sons, Douglas (Cindy) and Kent; a daughter, Sherri Garrett (Mark); and four grandchildren: Erin Garrett, Jennifer Doughty, Christina Doughty and Miles Garrett.
In accordance with his wishes, a private family service will be held.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests that memorial contributions in Fin's name be directed to Habitat for Humanity, Houston, 3750 N. McCarty, Houston, Texas 77029.
