Former Red River Law Officer Dies
Floyd Jones Was Sheriff 16 Years
Floyd Jones, 73, former sheriff of Red River parish for 16 years, died at his home in Coushatta at 4:15 p.m. yesterday after a long illness.
Born in Webster parish in 1877, he had spent most of his life in Red River parish. He was a peace officer for 20 years, 16 years as sheriff of Red River parish.
He was a member of the First Baptist church of Coushatta and the Silent Brotherhood lodge F. and A. M.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist church of Coushatta with the Rev. Jack Shaw, pastor, and the Rev. Jack Cook, pastor of the First Methodist church of Coushatta, officiating. Burial will be in Clear Springs cemetery near Coushatta.
Survivors include his widow; four sons, Worth Jones, Turner Jones and Sidney Jones of Coushatta, and Melton Jones of Kilgore, Texas; five daughters, Mrs. Aubrey Adcock, Overton, Texas, Mrs. Raymond Wilson, Carlisle, Texas, Mrs. Milton McDowell, Doyline, Mrs. Curtis Reeves, Bossier City, and Mrs. Garland Owens, Haughton; three brothers, four sisters, 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be his nephews, Everett Loftin, Kenthel Loftin, Bloise Loftin, Clinton Brewer, Fred Jones, Lloyd Norman, Aswell Shelton and Ray Ford.
Honorary pallbearers will be his friends.
