Frances Dawn Smithwick McDaris, age 68, of Olney, Texas, died Friday, August 6, 2004 in Olney.
Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, August 8, 2004, at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Andy Graham, officiating. Interment will be in the Restland Cemetery under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home.
Mrs. McDaris was born September 10, 1935 in Lampasas, Texas to the late Howard and Frances Metcalf Smithwick. She was a graduate of Olney High School where she was active in the band, mixed chorus and drama club. She was a charter member of the Rainbow girls and active in her church where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She worked at Haggar slacks in Olney as a hemmer before attending the George B. Hamilton School of Vocational Nursing in 1967. She worked at Hamilton Hospital in the OB and nursery. She did private duty nursing for a number of years before working at Olney Health Care Center, where she would finish her career in nursing when she retired in 2000. She was a member of the New Horizon Travel Club, Hamilton Hospital Auxiliary, Cumberland Presbyterian Church and CPWM.
Survivors include two sons: Howard McDaris and wife, Debbie of Burkburnett, Texas, Michael McDaris and wife, Jill of Denison, Texas; two daughters: Trachelle (Yvonne) Holloway and husband, Keith of Sherman, Texas, and Carla Inge and husband, Larry of Olney, Texas; her Mom: Maxie Mae Smithwick of Arlington, Texas; three sisters: Janette Ross and husband, Phillip of Frisco, Texas, Regina Carnley and husband, Boyd, and Kerlene Ross and husband, Butch, all of Lake Kiowa, Texas; ten grandchildren: seven nieces and nephews; seventeen great-nieces and nephews; and special friends: Norma and Jimmie Knight.
