Frances Foster Freeland
Frances Foster Freeland, 95, of Elizabethtown, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, at Hardin Memorial Hospital.
She was born March 25 [sic 26], 1915, to George W. and Ruth Holt Foster in Culleoka, Tenn. As a devoted Army wife and mother of five, she was a woman of vibrant strength and integrity. She was a member of the Elizabethtown Women’s Club, DAR, MOAA, NARFE and Hardin County Republican Club. She was a former social columnist for The News-Enterprise, a long-time volunteer for Hardin Memorial Hospital and an enthusiastic member of several bridge clubs.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, retired Lt. Col. Walter King Freeland; and three brothers, Everett, Kenneth and Albert Foster.
She is survived by six children, Martha (David) Knight of Lathrup Village, Mich., Albert (Denise) Freeland and Kay (Morris) Miller, both of Elizabethtown, David (Earline) Freeland of Naples, Fla., and Jennifer Freeland and Karen Dunning, both of Delray Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Nicole Woodhouse of Louisville, Terry Durr of Austin, Texas, Jeffrey Miller of Philadelphia, Stephanie Fitts of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Tracey Freeland of Lexington, Wesley Freeland of Louisville and Alexander Freeland of Naples, Fla.; 11 great-grandchildren, Miller and Elizabeth Fitts, Olivia, Georgia and Claudia Miller, Isabelle, Amelia and Eloise Durr, Katherine and John Woodhouse and Nicolas Freeland; a brother, Joseph Foster of Columbia, Tenn.; and two sisters, Martha Luster and Reba Hobbs, both of Columbia, Tenn.
The funeral was Friday, Jan. 21, at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with Dr. Danny Haynes officiating. Burial was in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-Central.
