Frances G. Bird

Funeral services for Frances G. Bird, 81, of Carthage wre held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 29 at Don Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel in Carthage. Dr. Jerry Pennington officiated. Burial followed in Oddfellows Cemetery in Carthage under the direction of Don Lipsey Funeral Home. She died Sunday morning, July 27 at Panola General Hospital.

Born Sept. 23, 1915 in Parker, Texas, she was the daughter of Willie French and Nettie Ree Hagins Gilliland. Frances married L.K. (Buddy) Bird on Jan. 29, 1938 in Henderson, and had lived in Carthage since 1945, moving here from Kilgore. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Carthage and was active in Carter Circle, the Carthage Garden Club, and several Bridge Clubs in Carthage. Frances had worked as a salesperson for over ten years at Adams Furniture and Bauer Furniture. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Lynn Bird, who died Aug. 6, 1951.

Survivors include her husband, L.K. Bird of Carthage; son and daughter-in-law, L.K. Bird Jr. and wife, Judy, of DeSota; sisters, Dorothy Watson of Kilgore, and Willie Mae Ward of Aurora, Colo.; sister-in-law, Coila Crawford of Carthage; grandchildren, Jason Eric Bird of Tulsa, Okla., and Mitchel Keith Bird of DeSota, Texas; great-grandchildren, Kasey Ann Bird and Shane Mitchel Bird, both of DeSota; a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Mitch Bird, Raphael Crawford, Guy Bunyard, Rowland Duckworth, Robert Davis, and Noble Gholson.

The family suggest that memorials be made to the Building Fund at First United Methodist Church of Carthage.
