Frances Marie Tumlinson

LAMPASAS - Services for Frances Marie Kelly Tumlinson, 84, will be at 11 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Lampasas with Dr. Adrian Coleman and Dr. Rick Willis officiating.

Burial will follow at Tumlinson Cemetery in Burnet County.

Mrs. Tumlinson died Sept. 28, 2004, at a Lampasas hospital.

She was born Dec. 13, 1919, in Dodson, La., the daughter of Peter W. Kelly and the former Betty Blake.

Mrs. Tumlinson graduated in 1937 from Gaar's Mill High School in Louisiana and from Baylor College of Nursing in Dallas in 1940.

In 1941 and 1942, she worked at Rollins-Brook Hospital in Lampasas for both Dr. Rollins and Dr. Brook.

She married William H. Tumlinson in 1942. He preceded her in death in 1965.

After her children were in school in 1956, Mrs. Tumlinson returned to the hospital clinic in Lampasas and worked there for 28 years before retiring in 1984.

She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Lampasas and the Ruth Sunday School class. She also served as secretary and pianist for her Sunday School class for many years.

After her retirement, Mrs. Tumlinson was an avid, award-winning quilter, including Best of Show at the Lampasas Quilt Show in 1998.

Survivors include a daughter, Martha Casbeer of Lampasas; a sister, Velera Coleman of Houston; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Tumlinson was also preceded in death by a son, Charles Tumlinson in 2002; two brothers; and a sister.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund or to the Lampasas Public Library.
