Frank Dunaway
September 26, 1924 - January 14, 2013

Services for Frank D. Dunaway, 88, of Kilgore will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 17, 2013 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Hendrick officiating. Interment will follow at Kilgore City Cemetery. Visitation will be six to eight, Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at the Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore. Mr. Dunaway went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, January 14, 2013.

Mr. Dunaway was born in Bristow, Oklahoma on September 26, 1924. He served as a member of the United States Army Air Force in World War II from April 16, 1943 until October 17, 1945. He was a Technical Sergeant in the 497th Bomb Group APO 140. Mr. Dunaway was an engineer gunner in a B-26 aircraft for 13 months in European Theatre of Operations. He flew 32 combat missions over Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received 5 medals including a Purple Heart, 4 Bronze Battle Stars and 1 Silver Cluster. Frank retired from the City of Kilgore where he worked in Public Health. The Kiddy Park in Kilgore is named in his honor. Frank worked tirelessly for over 40 years for the City of Kilgore and always had a smile on his face. He dedicated his life to both public service and the service of his church. He loved the City of Kilgore and always kept up with what was going on in town. Mr. Dunaway has been a charter member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Kilgore since 1934. He attended services on the day the church opened and continued worshiping there throughout his lifetime. He was a faithful and devoted husband for 64 years to his wife Ora Lee. Frank kept a diary in which he thanked God everyday for his children. He started everyday of his life with his morning coffee, reading the Bible and his daily devotionals. He was loved by all and will be missed by his family and many friends.

Survivors include his four children, Barbara Ann Wallenmeyer of Kilgore, Gary Frank Dunaway and wife Nancy of Kilgore, Janice Nardi Patrick and husband Jim of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Jimmie Darrell Dunaway and wife Sandy of Elgin, TX. Eight grandchildren include, Matthew James Wallenmeyer and wife Meredith of O'Fallon, MO., Mark David Wallenmeyer and wife Ann of Springfield, MO, Chad David Dunaway of Kilgore, Jason Joseph Hoffman and wife Nanci of Kilgore, Frank Darrell Nardi and wife Lori of Flint, Tx, Westin Michael Nardi of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Andrew Ryan Nardi of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Whitney Leigh Zambrano and husband Daniel of Kilgore. Thirteen great-grandchildren include, Dustin Richard Wallenmeyer of O'Fallon, MO, Melinda Nicole Wallenmeyer of Springfield, MO, Teddy James Wallenmeyer of Springfield, MO, Jacob Alexander Dunaway, Carley Hope Ava Dunaway, Gabrielle Elizabeth Dunaway, Logan Paul Dunaway, Miles David Dunaway , Barrett Cole Hoffman, Joeli Grace Hoffman all of Kilgore, Hali Nicole Martin and husband Brett of Cape Coral, FL, Hana Kay Nardi and Jim Easton of Punta Gorda, Fl. and Annaliese Nichole Zambrano of Kilgore. Other survivors include, two Great-Great Grandchildren, Audrey Kay Martin and Travis Brett Martin both of Cape Coral, Florida; one sister, Mattie Phillips of Jacksonville, Tx; sister-in-law, Linda Pirtle and husband Caleb of Hideway, Tx. and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Dunaway was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Nora Butcher Dunaway; wife, Ora Lee Dunaway in 2010; step-mother, Stella Dunaway and two sisters, Dorothy Windham and Lois Kaufman.
