Frank Lee Brooks, Jr., 85, of Ridgeland, Mississippi, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 after a long battle with myelodysplastic syndrome. Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 22nd from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., and on Thursday, June 23rd at 10:00 a.m. at the Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home on the Highland Colony Parkway.The funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home on Thursday, June 23rd at 11:00 a.m.
Frank Brooks was born in Jacksonville, Florida, on January 9, 1926 to Frank L. Brooks, Sr. and Inez Taylor Brooks.He spent much of his childhood in Pueblo and Denver, Colorado.
Frank served his country honorably by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps during World War II, and he holds the distinction of being among those gallant Marines who fought in the invasion of Iwo Jima.
Upon his return from the war, Frank moved to Jackson, Mississippi in 1952, where he met the love of his life, Sue Jordan of Terry, Mississippi.They were married in March 20, 1954, and recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary together.
Before his retirement in 1990, Frank was President and Co-Owner of Kolb's Grand Cleaners.Following his retirement, a focus of his life with Sue was in providing a place for ministry to the youth of Riverwood Bible Church. “The Brooks 40”, his home in Madison, Mississippi, became the place for years of youth gatherings where fun and food were enjoyed by many of “their kids”, along with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Frank also made many trips with the Youth Group.
Frank and Sue loved to travel the world.They visited each of the fifty United States, plus many foreign countries. A particular favorite destination for Frank was New Zealand, which he visited twice.
Frank exhibited a heart for ministry to others. In addition to his love of serving young people, for many years Frank volunteered one day each week at Friends of Alcoholics in Pocahontas, Mississippi.Frank lived his faith in Jesus Christ, which he professed freely before men.
Frank Brooks was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Inez Brooks, and by his brother Bob. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sue Jordan Brooks; by his sisters Jo Ann Van Fossen and John of Spring, Texas and Elayne Oxendine of Ridgeland, Mississippi; and by three nieces and three nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Riverwood Bible Church in Jackson, Mississippi, Friends of Alcoholics in Pocahontas, Mississippi, In His Steps Ministries in Canton, Mississippi, or to the charity of your choice.
