Fred Huthnance Succumbs At Home In Colfax

Funeral services for Fred Huthnance, seventy-one year old Colfax planter, banker, and civic leader, were held at Colfax Saturday afternoon, April 2, with burial in Colfax Cemetery. Under the auspices of the Masons, with the largest number of Masons in the funeral procession of any funeral in Grant Parish, no doubt since the burial of the late Sheriff Luther Nugent in 1936.

One of the leading planters in Central Louisiana, he was widely known in business, civic, and political circles in the state.

Twice an unsuccessful candidate for Sheriff of Grant Parish in 1940-44 on the Jones-Davis ticket, he had long been a leader in the fight for Home Rule Government in Grant Parish. At his death he was a member of the Grant Parish School Board.

A widower, he is survived by one sister, Mrs. Minnie Phillips, of Montgomery.
