MECOM FUNERAL IS CONDUCTED

Prominent Retired Caldwell Parish Physician Buried

COLUMBIA, La., June 4. --(Special)-- The funeral of Dr. Fred H. Mecom, 69, retired Caldwell parish physician and business man, who died here Tuesday, was held in Columbia Wednesday.

He was born and educated in Caldwell parish. His medical education was gathered at the University of Tennessee and at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, where he took post-graduate work.

As a member of a calvary unit in the Spanish-American war, Doctor Mecom participated in the famous battle of San Juan hill.

Doctor Mecom practiced medicine in Caldwell parish until his retirement at the end of World War II. He was active in political and business affairs in north Louisiana, a leader in public improvement programs over a period of years, a director of the Caldwell Parish Bank and Trust company, and a former member of the state Democratic committee.

He is survived by his widow, the former Minnie Brown of Columbia; five brothers, Philip and Harry Mecom of Shreveport, Dr. Virgil Mecom and Dr. William A. Mecom of Wisner and James L. Mecom of Spur, Texas, and two sisters, Mrs. Clara Gregory of Columbia and Mrs. Walter Culpepper of Monroe.
