Fred S. Lofton
Word was received by relatives here today of the death Thursday about 9:03 p.m. of Fred Spencer Lofton, 21 of Saxton, Miss., a former Groves resident who was killed in a truck-train collision at Senatobia, Miss.
A student at Northwest Mississippi junior college, Lofton was killed after his truck and a train collided. The train reportedly traveling at a high speed, traveled half a mile down its track with Lofton's wrecked truck attached to it before it came to a halt. Lofton was said to have been killed instantly in the mishap.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred C. Lofton of Saxton. He also is survived by a brother, Mark Lofton of Saxton; a grandmother, Mrs. Ollie Lofton of Pineville, La.; and a number of aunts and uncles including W. B. Lofton of Nederland, E. G. Dammon of Port Arthur and John H. and Herbert L. Lofton, both of Groves.
Funeral arrangements, being handled at New Albany, Miss., by the National Funeral home, are incomplete. Burial will be sometime Saturday at Pontotoc, Miss.
