Garnett Lee Caudell Jr.

Graveside services for Garnett Lee Caudell Jr., 73, of Cleveland, formerly of Carthage, were held at 10 a.m. May 3, 2004 in Deadwood Cemetery. The Rev. Jack Hardy officiated. Arrangements were under the direction of Jimerson Funeral Home. He died April 28 in Cleveland.

Born March 18, 1931 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Garnett Lee Caudell Sr. He was reared in Boystwon, Neb., until the age of 12 and at the age of 14 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II. When the Navy discovered his true age, he was Honorably Discharged. In 1950, he caught a ride to Dallas and lived there several years.

He had lived in Carthage since 1972, moving to Shepherd three years ago. He was an offshore boat captain by trade and he held two world records for catching the largest Lemon fish and eel fish. He loved life and sharing his many traveling experiences with family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Caudell; and brother, Tommy Caudell.

Loving survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Shirley Caudell, of Shepherd, Richard and Pat Holeman, of Seneca Falls, N.Y., and Michael and Virginia Holeman, of Jacksonville, Fla.; daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Jim Bryant, of Woodville, Cozette Caudell, of California, Terry Adams, of Greenville, Miss., Darlene and Ken Anderson, of Hattiesburg, Miss., Marlene Shane, of Daisetta, and Glenda and Bob Gober, of Carthage.

Also surviving Caudell is his brother, James ``Jimmy'' Caudell, of Houma, La.; 24 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; son-in-law, William Shane, of Baytown; several nieces and nephews.

Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to the Deadwood Cemetery.
