Deville Man Is Killed In Two-Car Collision

Gary L. Hawthorne, 31, of Deville died about 1:30 p.m. Monday when his vehicle was struck by a second vehicle on La. Hwy. 28 near Village Green.

Police charged Martin J. Bordelon, 49, of Pineville with driving while intoxicated and negligent homicide.

Police said the accident occurred when Bordelon, who was traveling west, crossed the center line and struck the Hawthorne vehicle head-on.

Jesse E. Smith, 29, also of Deville and a passenger with Hawthorne, was injured in the accident. He was listed in satisfactory condition at Rapides General Hospital today.

Bordelon was listed in fair condition at Rapides General.

Hawthorne is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bonnie Bilbo Hawthorne of Deville; two sons, James Edward Hawthorne and Stephen Wayne Hawthorne, both of Deville; two daughters, Deborah Lane Hawthorne and Bonnie Renia Hawthorne, both of Deville; his mother, Mrs. Edward A. Hawthorne of Pineville; four brothers, Lavelle B. Hawthorne of Alexandria, Dannie Hawthorne of Pineville, and Lester L. Hawthorne and James L. Hawthorne, both of Ball; and two sisters, Mrs. Margie Lofton and Mrs. Sandra Hood, both of Pineville.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Hixson Bros., Pineville with Revs. Glen Lanier and Jack Hightower officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park.

Memorials may be sent ot the Recreational Fund of Donahue Baptist Church.
