Gene Herndon
Gene Herndon, age 84, died on December 25th at Odyssey Hospice House in OKC.
He was born in Madill, OK on November 2, 1924 to Merle and Lillie Herndon. After graduating from Madill High School in 1943, he worked on the family farm until he was elected Marshall County Commissioner in 1950. In 1954, Gene was elected to the Oklahoma State Senate. He later worked in heavy equipment sales and retired in Del City where he lived until May of 2008.
Gene spent his last 6 months in Copper Lake Assisted Living in Edmond.
He is survived by his niece Sandra Leonard, sister-in-law Billye Herndon, daughter-in-law Sheila Herndon, and the mother of his children, Billie D. Hunt Herndon.
Gene was preceded in death by two sons Jimmy and Jackie, his brother Rex and his 2nd wife Mildred.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gene's honor to Odyssey House.
A memorial service will be Sunday, December 28 at 4:00 pm at the chapel at Copper Lake, Edmond, Oklahoma. Graveside service will be Monday, December 29th at 2pm at Woodberry-Forest Cemetery in Madill. Lyndol Adams will officiate the services. Services under the direction of Watts Funeral Home, Madill, Oklahoma.
