Gene Stanford Norwood
(October 12, 1929 - August 28, 2010)

Gene Stanford Norwood, 80, passed away Saturday Aug. 28, 2010 at his home in Greenwood. Funeral services are 10 A.M. Monday Aug. 30 at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Centerville Cemetery. Rev. Larry Shackelford will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7 P.M. at the funeral home.

Born Oct 12, 1929 in Greenwood to Homer P. and Bertha (Marshall) Norwood, Gene was a 1947 graduate of French Camp Academy. He joined the US Navy in February of 1947 serving until his retirement in July of 1977. He served in Korea and Vietnam. He was a member of the Lighthouse Ministry Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Newton Norwood.

He is survived by his wife Margie Laverne Goss Norwood, three daughters, Genny Norwood Vickers of Pearl, MS, Sharon Mounce Salmon and her husband Robert of Charleston, MS, and Rhonda Mounce Drummond and her husband James of Greenwood, MS. Two sisters Lemmie Frances McGrory of Memphis, TN, Marjorie Ann Barner of Hernando, MS, 5 grandchildren, Brian Willingham of Pearl, MS, Leslie Salmon Heafner of Charleston, Peyton Salmon Boone and her husband, Michael of Charleston, MS, Michelle Long of Seattle, WA, Nicole Long Hokett of Tacoma, WA, 9 great grandchildren, Christopher Willingham of Mass., Dallas Willingham and Jullian Willingham of Raymond, MS, Andrew Heafner, Shelby Grace Boone and Autumn Boone of Charleston, MS, Asher Hokett, Ethan Hokett, and Annabella Hokett of Tacoma, WA.

Pallbearers are James Drummond, Robert Salmon, Michael Boone, Blake Daugherty, Doug Shields, James Woodall.
