George Eben Peek

ESCONDIDO -- George Eben Peek passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 in Escondido, California, with his family at his bedside.

He was born December 27, 1926 in Phoenix, Arizona. George's childhood was spent in Prescott and Phoenix, where he graduated from high school. In 1946, while serving in the U.S. Navy, he married Doris Bazoon in New Orleans. They were married for 57 years until her death in 2003.

He graduated from the University of Arizona in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. His work career began in California where he was employed at Lear and General Dynamics. He retired from the Cubic Corporation of San Diego in 1990, where he worked for 34 years. During his career, he held offices, including President in the San Diego chapter of PEI (Planning Executive Institute). He was also Treasurer of the San Diego National Assoc., of Accountants, and was on the National Board of Directors for that group.

George retired from the U.S. Naval Reserve with the rank of Lieutenant. At the time of his death, he was Treasurer of the local chapter of the Retired Officers' Club.

He has been an active member of Emmanuel Faith Community Church for 45 years. His interests included ham radio, Big Band and Dixieland Jazz music, golf, ships, trains and classic cars. He was a loyal fan of his Alma Mater, the University of Arizona, and attended class reunions there.

George is survived by a son, Charles (Chuck) Peek; a daughter, Pamela Abbott; grandchildren, Dale Peek, Eddie Peek, Isaac Abbott, Amber Friend, and a fiancé, Julia Tosic.

A son, Jack Peek, preceded him in death in 1999.

A memorial service to celebrate George's life will be held on Sunday, March 20th, at 2 pm in the Chapel building at Emmanuel Faith Community Church in Escondido.

Interment will be on Monday, March 21st, at 11 am at the Riverside National Cemetery.
