George F. Hammack

BUTLER, Ga. -- George Fountain Hammack, 73, of Butler, died Monday in Butler.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Butler United Methodist Church, with burial in Butler Primitive Baptist Church cemetery, according to Edwards Funeral Home, Butler.

Mr. Hammack was born Aug. 4, 1921, in Taylor County, son of Nathan Bussey Hammack and Ada Virginia Fountain Hammack. He lived in Butler all his life and retired as a well driller and merchant. He was a member of Butler United Methodist Church, and a member and past president of the Georgia Well Drillers Association. He retired as captain of the Butler Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Fickling Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Myra; two sons, Bussey Hammack of Butler and Mike Hammack of Ellaville; a daughter, Betty Jo Rue of St. Simons Island; a brother, Hollis Hammack of Columbus; two sisters, Anne Garrett of Brennan [sic Brenham], Texas, and Mary Leonard of Ideal; and eight grandchildren.
