George F. Noblit

George Frank Noblit, 91, died Monday, April 27, 2009, in a local hospital.

He was a native of Longview, Texas and had been a resident of Sulphur since 1955.

He retired from Firestone after 26 years of service. Upon his retirement, he started sharpening saws for friends and family which eventually turned into a small business. In the past, he had served as a Little League baseball coach for five years. George also enjoyed building furniture for his kids and grandkids. He was a member of Maplewood First Baptist Church where he had taught the men's Sunday school class for 40 years. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Goldie Noblit of Sulphur; two sons, Jimmy Frank Noblit and wife Marion of Alexandria, and Stephen Timothy Noblit of Sulphur; one daughter, Linda Kay Noblit Little of Sulphur; one sister, Frances Kelly of Lancaster, Texas; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Donald, Ray, Addison, and Edison; and three sisters, Louise, Helen, and Kathrine.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 1, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Dr. Ronnie Burke, Rev. Charley Watson, and Rev. Michael Sanford will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss. Visitation is from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, and 8:30 a.m. until the time of service Friday in the funeral home.
