Cuthbert was much shocked yesterday about noon by the announcement of the sudden death of Mr. George Taunton, a well-known young man of this city. Mr. Taunton, although not having been in the best of health for the past year, still continued his busy life from day to day. Yesterday morning he went to his meat market and attended to the wants of his customers, and later went to his farm near town, and remained until about noon. On returning home, he became suddenly and violently ill, stopping at times on the way. He reached home, and physicians were hastily summoned. He was revived for a time, and indications pointed to his recovery. He suddenly gasped for breath and life was extinct in a second, his heart and lungs were supposed to have been involved, and his weakened condition made his case all the more serious.
Mr. Taunton was unmarried, was quite unassuming and full of energy, always found working, either at his market, at his farm or at his home. His friends appreciated his loyalty, and he was a man of many noble parts. His death was quite a shock to the people of Cuthbert; and two sisters, Miss Ada Taunton and Mrs. W. O. Taylor of this city. The late Mrs. J. T. Land was also a sister.
The funeral services of Mr. Taunton occurred this afternoon from his late residence in this city, and was largely attended.
