George W. McCarty, Sr.
Services for Mr. George W. McCarty, Sr. will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 24, 2003, in Big Island Baptist Church with Reverends Donald Lemmons and Todd Burgess officiating. Burial will be in Big Island Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Brothers, Pineville. Military graveside services will be provided by personnel from the Louisiana National Guard.
Mr. McCarty, 72, of Deville died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, in Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital.
He was a retired National Guard warrant officer. He also retired from Pinecrest Developmental Center after 31 years of service as a building maintenance supervisor. He was a member of Big Island Baptist Church, Deville, where he was very active working with the youth.
He is preceded in death by his parents, W. A. and Carrie Scroggs McCarty sister, Mary L. McCarty and brother, W. A. McCarty, Jr.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 29 years, Vernell Reed McCarty of Deville sons, George W. McCarty Jr. and wife, Pam, of Pineville, and Alan Wayne McCarty of Deville stepsons, Keith Harmson and wife, Penny, of Deville, Bradley Harmson and wife, Cherrie, of Deville, Dassen Harmson of Pineville, Eric Harmson and wife, Michelle, of Boyce sister, Peggy Joyce Parrish of Madill, Okla. 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may call Thursday at Hixson Brothers, Pineville, from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Friday at Big Island Baptist Church from 9 a.m. until service time.
Pallbearers will be Keith Harmson, Bradley Harmson, Eric Harmson, Dassen Harmson, George W. McCarty, Jr. and Alan Wayne McCarty.
Honorary pallbearers will be Matt Reed, Shelton Reed, Ezra Reed, D.H. Reed, Lloyd Reed and Clyde Reed.
Mr. McCarty was a man of many talents who would help anyone that needed it, and his grandchildren were the joy of his life. He lived his life surrounded by relatives and friends who loved him very much.
