G. W. ‘Biggie’ Smith Dies
Funeral services for George Wilbur “Biggie” Smith, 58, a former resident of McComb, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Dannel, Horton, Barrett Funeral Home Chapel in Sherman, Tex.
Mr. Smith died at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the VA Hospital in Bonham, Tex. Born May 10, 1919, he was the son of the late Dan W. and Mamie Ryals Smith.
He was a veteran of World War II having served in Europe and in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Nazarene faith and attended the McComb Nazarene Church in early life.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Bobbye Jean Wolford, Jackson, Pam and Patsy Smith, both of West Point; three sisters, Mrs. J.M. Holmes, Columbus, Mrs. Leaton Randall, Sand Springs, Okla., Mrs. Norman Crawford, Sherman, Tex., with whom he made his home; and one brother, Dan W. Smith, Bunkie, La.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, including his twin brother, Wilmer Smith, who died several years ago in McComb.
The Rev. Charles Peters and the Rev. Leon Martin will officiate. Burial with military rites will be in West Hill Cemetery in Sherman.
