George Willard Prillaman, Jr.

George Willard Prillaman, Jr. died in Wilmington, NC, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center on July 6 [sic 7], 2004. He was 55 years old.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George W. Prillaman, Sr. and Mildred Thornton Prillaman.

He is survived by a brother, Don Prillaman, of New Orleans, Louisiana; a sister, Susan Prillaman, of Chapel Hill; three nieces, Ashley Ullstein, Sarah Richardson and Elise Richardson; and a nephew, Macon Richardson.

He grew up in Chapel Hill and attended Chapel Hill Schools, UNC-Chapel Hill and Cape Fear Community College where he received a degree in Boat Building. He was a state champion on the Chapel Hill Swim Team and held a state record for the 100-meter butterfly for several years in his teens. George was an accomplished finish carpenter and worked in the historic district of Wilmington on restoration projects of homes. However, his first love was sailing and the ocean.

Internment of his ashes will be at the new Chapel Hill Cemetery following the memorial service. George's friends are invited to attend both events.
