George W. Gruber
George passed away in Tacoma, Washington at the age of 88. He was born in New York City to Alexander and Josephine Gruber. George graduated from high school in New York City, and then enlisted in the Army. He retired from the Army as a Major and continued his career at Fort Lewis Maintenance as the Chief of Production, Planning and Control, retiring in 1979. While George enjoyed watching all sports, he kept active by playing handball and swimming at the Elks Club.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Juanita, and his son, Matthew.
He is survived by his current wife Barbara, daughter Mary McLellan, son Chris (Nancy) Gruber, and daughter Candace (Uli) Gruber. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Matthew, Heather (Freddie), and Adria; three great-grandchildren, Gavin, Skyler, and Matthew; three step-sons, Jim (Angela) Fisk, Ron (Pat) Fisk, and Dick (Shirley) Fisk; and a large extended family.
He will be missed by all who knew him, and to know George was to love him. Funeral Mass will be at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at 10am, officiated by Father Seamus Laverty, with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Saint Patrick's School or to a charity of your choice.
