GEORGIA E. HOBBS
MERCY HOSPITAL NURSE, SERVED IN WWII

Georgia E. Hobbs, 81, of Colonial Village died Friday at a Portland hospital.

She was born in Benson, N.C., a daughter of Luther T. and Lessie Lee Johnson.

She attended Benson schools and graduated from Benson High School and the James Walker Memorial Hospital in Wilmington, N.C. She received her training in anesthesia from Duke Hospital in Durham, N.C.

Mrs. Hobbs served during World War II in the Nursing Corps and was a certified registered nurse's anesthesiologist at Mercy Hospital in Portland in the 1960s.

She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Portland and the Altar Guild. She enjoyed gardening and watercolor painting.

Surviving are her husband of 51 years, Edward A. Hobbs of Falmouth; a son, Daniel L. Hobbs of Pownal; a daughter, Sandra A. Hobbs of Santa Fe, N.M.; two sisters, Inez Best and Ella Richards, both of Coldsboro, N.C.; and a brother, Henry M. Johnson of Naples, Fla.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 113 Coyle St., Portland. Arrangements are by the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland.
