Graveside funeral services for Mr. Gerald McDaniel will be held at 11:00AM, Thursday, October 26, 2006, at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, with Rev. Alan Robertson and Rev. Sam Sidders officiating. Services are under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.

Mr. McDaniel was born to Jessie and Evie Calk McDaniel on September 12, 1928, in Calhoun, LA and died on October 24, 2006, in Monroe after a lengthy illness. He served in the United States Army in the German occupation after World War II and returned to Monroe to work for the Illinois Central Railroad for 38 years. He was a Mason and a man with many friends. He had a keen interest in local and world history and politics.

He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Joan; daughter, Debbie of Shreveport; son, Wayne and wife Becky of West Monroe; grandson, Taylor McDaniel; and brothers, Irvin of Calhoun and Louis of Ft. Worth, TX.

Visitation will be from 5:00PM until 7:00PM, Wednesday, October 25, 2006, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.

The family wishes to thank the numerous medical personnel of the Monroe/West Monroe area who cared for Mr. McDaniel during his illness, including Doctors Floyd Jones, Grant Dona, Scott Barron, and Thomas Williams; and the outstanding staff of Avalon Place, including Bridget and Denise, for their compassionate care in recent weeks.
