Geraldine Huff Smith

Geraldine Arender Huff Smith, 76, a retired teacher, died Tuesday, February 6, 2007, of pancreatic cancer at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. Funeral services are 1 p.m. today First Baptist Church in Raleigh with burial in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Brandon. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Raleigh is handling the arrangements.

She will be lovingly remembered as a Godly wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Geraldine's outgoing personality and love of people made her a special friend to many.

Mrs. Geraldine was born on October 5, 1930, in Raleigh and graduated from Raleigh School. She attended Draughns Business School and worked in the Smith County Chancery Clerk office for several years. After marriage and children, she worked at Puckett Attendance Center and later retired from Raleigh Elementary. Mrs. Geraldine was an active member of Sardis Baptist Church where she served as organist, Sunday school teacher and in many different capacities. She was also a member or Raleigh First Baptist Church. ``Happiness Is'' Choir and thoroughly enjoyed singing, sewing, painting, and traveling. Mrs. Geraldine also volunteered at the Smith County Association's Baptist Food Pantry.

Survivors include: husband of 26 years, Louie Bernice (L. B.) Smith of the Sardis Community; one son, Randy C. Huff of Pelahatchie; one daughter, Renea Huff Rhodes and son-in-law, Phil of Brandon; one step-son, Dr. Donald Smith and wife, Linda; one step-daughter, Vernet and husband, Tim Toomey of Enterprise, Ala.; three grandsons, Ches and Tyler Rhodes, and Justin Toomey; four granddaughters, Rachelle, Jennifer, and Jessica Toomey, and Lauren Smith; brothers, Bob Arender of Mineral Springs, Harold Arender of Raleigh, Earnest Arender of Ocean Springs, and Pete Arender of Ripley, Tenn.; sisters, Mrs. Nadene Harrison and Mrs. Undean Thompson of Raleigh.

Preceded in death by first husband, Chester E. Huff of Pelahatchie; parents, Dewey D. and Mabel Arender of Raleigh; brothers, Dewitt and Billy Arender.
