GERALDINE W. BLALOCK

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 5, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Liberty for Geraldine Whittington Blalock, 72, of Liberty. Bishop Chris Hollis and Bro. Reuben Clark officiated. Burial was in the Blalock Family Cemetery, with Brown Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Mrs. Blalock's grandsons, Chris, Josh and Kane Honea, Matthew Blalock, Zach Steele and Christian Nickens.

Honorary pallbearers were Ronnie Blalock, Gary Honea, John Steele, Dean and Jay Nickens and Billy Van Norman.

Mrs. Blalock went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at her home, surrounded by family and caregivers after a battle with cancer.

Born June 13, 1938, in Liberty, Mrs. Blalock was the daughter of Sam E. and Lula Freeman Whittington, both deceased.

Mrs. Blalock was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed reading, church service and being surrounded by her grandchildren.

Mrs. Blalock was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Blalock was preceded in death by a daughter, Denise Blalock Honea; three grandchildren, Sara and Nathan Blalock and Mary Margaret Nickens; four brothers, Sammie Lee Whittington, O.C. Whittington, Jake Whittington and Alvie Whittington; three sisters, Florine Etheridge, Doris Dosett and Maxine Gunther; and a brother-in-law, R.J. Ogden.

Mrs. Blalock left behind to cherish her memory her husband, Carl E. Blalock of Liberty; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Cheryl Blalock of Liberty; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda Dee and Dean Nickens of Hattiesburg and Carla and John Steele of Liberty; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Clarice and Larry Allred of Summit, Marlene Ogden of Mobile, Alabama, Ruby Nell Etheridge of Ridgeland, Diane and Rodney Bond of Osyka and Cindy and Bruce Rimes of Summit; a brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Kathy Etheridge of Bogue Chitto; twelve grandchildren, Chris, Josh, Kane, Lynlee and Leighton Honea, Matthew Blalock and Anna Blalock Van Norman, Jake, Julia and Christian Nickens, and Zach and Olivia Steele; and five great-grandchildren, Kate, Leah, Myles and Jay Honea and Dreher Van Norman.
