Services were held July 14 at Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church for Dr. G. A. McCarty Sr. of 5325 Hanging Moss Rd. The Rev. John Morrow, the Rev. Kelly Pope and Dr. Clay F. Lee officiated.

Dr. McCarty, 80, died July 13 at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center.

A native of Magee, he had lived in Jackson since 1931. He had been practicing dentistry for 58 years. He was graduated in 1928 from the Atlanta Southern Dental College which is now known as Emory University. He was a member of the American Dental Association and the Mississippi Dental Association where he was a past president.

Dr. McCarty was past president of the State Section American College of Dentistry, was also a member of the Southern Academy of Periodontology, past president of the Jackson Club and a member of the Country Club of Jackson.

He is survived by his daughter, Emily Judith McCarty of Jackson; two sons, James E. McCarty of Madison and Dr. G. A. McCarty Jr. of Memphis; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Methodist Children's Home.

Pallbearers were Chester L. Harvey, Jack A. Switzer, John Adams, Dr. Ed Redding, Fred Johnson Jr., Dr. Mark Blackburn, Malcolm D. Watson Jr. and William V. Watson.

Burial was in Lakewood Memorial Park with Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home handling arrangements.
