Mrs. Gladys Middleton Is Mourned

Services Sunday for Resident of City 48 Years

Funeral services for Mrs. Gladys Middleton, 67, longtime McComb resident who died Saturday after a brief illness, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Catchings Chapel.

Mrs. Middleton was a native of Franklin County and the daughter of the late P. E. and Alice William[s] Gresham. She came to McComb in 1913 and had lived at her home, 201 S. James St., for the past 30 years.

An active member of Centenary Methodist Church, Mrs. Middleton belonged to the Tri-Mu Sunday School class and the Woman's Society of Christian Service. She was a member of Dorothy Hubbard Circle and had presented the devotional at a meeting a few days ago.

Her husband, the late Ingram Middleton, preceded her in death by 14 years.

Rev. David Ulmer, pastor of Centenary Methodist Church, and Dr. Wyatt Hunter, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiated. Burial was in Hollywood Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Wendell Holmes, Magnolia, J. J. Monfourt, Whit Montgomery, Ward Stokes, Paul Daughdrill, and H. M. Godbold, all of McComb.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Versie Barlow; a sister, Mrs. Clarence Goynier, Clinton; three half-sisters, Mrs. Clera Stewart, Memphis, Mrs. Ida Henderson, Fresno, Calif., and Mrs. Ada Parker, Smithdale; a half-brother, Conklin Whittington, Meadville; a grandson, Kenneth Barlow, U. S. Navel Hospital, Philadelphia, Pa.; a granddaughter, Mrs. Jerry Wyatt, Wetzlar, Germany; and a great-granddaughter, Peggy Ann Wyatt.

Catchings Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
