Brown Funeral Held Saturday

Funeral services for Mrs. James Martell Brown, 50, of 519 W. Porter Street, were held at 4 p.m. Saturday from the Wright & Ferguson Chapel, conducted by Dr. Kermit Canterbury, pastor of Griffith Memorial Baptist Church and Rev. Neal H. Grabach, pastor of Cooper Road Christian Church.

She died Friday afternoon at the Baptist Hospital following an illness of several weeks.

Mrs. Brown was the former Gla[d]ys Esther Meeks of Louin and had lived in Jackson for 29 years. She was a member of Griffith Memorial Baptist Church and the Jackson Chapter No. 47 Order of Eastern Star.

Her survivors are her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Jack H. Clements and a granddaughter, Terrie Lynn Clements all of Jackson; five brothers, E. Ray Meeks Sr., of Jackson, T. W. Meeks of Lake, R. E. Meeks, F. H. Meeks, and Delma Meeks all of Louin; three sisters, Mrs. Virgil Roebuck of Lake, Mrs. B. H. Evans of Lawrence, and Miss Oma Meeks of Louin.

Serving as active pallbearers were Jimmy Denson, Charles Blackwell, Robert McReynolds, Robert Miley, Richard Brown, Kenneth Brown, Sam Ferguson, and Elbert Liner.

Honorary pallbearers were Sam Tucker, Joe E. Kirkland, Ray Stegall, Otis Snipes, Geo. Earl Brown, Bill Dukes, Andy Palmer, Dale G. Fulton, Odell Morris Herbert Sullivan, and O. J. Root.

Interment was in Lakewood Memorial Park.
