Glendell McCarty

NEWELLTON -- Glendell McCarty died Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital. He was 74.

Mr. McCarty was born in Sicily Island, La., and had lived in Tensas Parish for more than 45 years. He was a justice of the peace, a former alderman of the town of Newellton and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He owned a farm and auto parts store and was a member of First Baptist Church of Newellton.

He is survived by two daughters, Lynn McCarty Doyle of Vicksburg and Dawn Marie McCarty of Shreveport; two brothers, Bobby McCarty of Alvin, Texas, and Alton McCarty of Houston, Texas; one sister, Laverne Butler of Tallulah; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and friends, including Louise Crumpton of Tallulah.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Newellton with the Rev. Dennis Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Legion Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah.
