Glenny Paul Blanchard

Glenny Paul Blanchard, 85, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010.
He was born Oct. 9, 1924, in Denham Springs to Marshall P. Blanchard and Ida Cormier Blanchard. He married Dorothy Nell Taylor before serving as a private first class in an Army infantry division during World War II. During his tour, he participated in the Battle of the Bulge, earning a Bronze Star medal and a Purple Heart medal, among many other medals and honors.
He returned home to Baton Rouge in 1945 to his wife and young daughter, Jerri Lynn. A second daughter, Donna June, arrived during the baby boom after World War II. After returning home, he completed his mechanical engineering degree at LSU. He began his career in commercial and industrial construction with Charles Beadles at C-B Construction Co. in Baton Rouge, eventually becoming the sole owner of the company.
Mr. Blanchard was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the Louisiana Engineering Society. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Mr. Blanchard also enjoyed spending time on his self-designed house boat, the ``Long Shot,'' and various other floating camps in the bayous of south Louisiana.
He was preceded in death by his ``bride'' of 50 years, Nell Blanchard; daughter, Jerri Kennedy; brothers, Max Blanchard and Charles Blanchard; and parents, Marshall and Ida Blanchard.
He is survived by two sisters, Bernice Heil and Inez Williams; a brother, Leonard Blanchard; a daughter, Donna Blanchard; a grandson, Paul Dedeaux; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
Visitation at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Monday, June 14, from 1 p.m. until funeral Mass at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park on North Street.
Pallbearers will be Cameron Heil, Darrel Heil, Don Heil, Hunter Heil, Drake Heil, Pat Heil, Steven Heil, Scott Heil and Troy Heil.
Honorary pallbearers are Teddy Heil, Steve Wesley, Leonard Blanchard, Mike Norwood, Jackie Stevenson, Cindy Norwood, Debbie Heil, Nedra Sullivan, Dorothy Taylor and Nancy Wagonner.
