G. E. HAILES, MOSELLE MAN, DIES IN HUB

Funeral Services Saturday at Ellisville; Was Outstanding Farm Leader

Funeral services for G. E. Hailes, prominent Moselle business man who passed away at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Methodist Hospital, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Ellisville cemetery.

Mr. Hailes, 61, was stricken Saturday while at work in his fields at Moselle. He was rushed to a hospital where a blood transfusion was made, but death followed shortly afterward.

Interment will follow at the cemetery, and the Rev. Mr. Hilburn, pastor of the Baptist church, will officiate. Hattiesburg Undertaking Company will be in charge.

Mr. Hailes is survived by his wife and six children. They are Mrs. P. M. Cobb and Mrs. No. O. Murff, Aberdeen; Miss Lelia Hailes, Moselle; C. W. and C. L., of Chicago, and P. G. of Moselle.

Mr. Hailes was probably the most outstanding and successful practical farmer in Jones county and south Mississippi. He hewed his model farm out of the piney woods 37 years ago and adopted a program of diversification that has atttracted many followers. His pecan grove is considered one of the best in this section, and he introduced terracing on the hill farms in south Mississippi.

Public demand for his services resulted in his becoming Jones county farm demonstration agent for eight years; farm agent for the Laurel chamber of commerce two years; farm development manager of the First National Bank of Laurel four years, and editor of the Laurel Daily Leader farm page. He was field representative of the Mayhaw Canning Company, Laurel, at the time of his death.
