GORDEN WILLIAMS
Memorial services for Gorden Woodrow Williams, 76, of Hughes Springs, Texas will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, December 19, 2008 at First Baptist Church, Hughes Springs, Texas with Reverends Mickey Rorex and Lee Mars officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 pm until the time of the service at the First Baptist Church of Hughes Springs. Visitation will also be held at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Pineville, Louisiana between 9:00 am and 10:30 am Saturday morning, December 20, 2008 with a graveside service led by Dr. David Brooks, Senior Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Alexandria. Burial will be at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Pineville, Louisiana.
Gorden was born April 16, 1932 in Rapides Parish, Louisiana to John Wiley Williams and Willie Vae Lofton Williams. He attended Tioga Elementary and Menard and Tioga High Schools. He served his country in the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict and retired from Texas and Northern Railroad having also worked for Texas and Pacific Railroad. He was a member of Hughes Springs Baptist Church.
Gorden was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Allen Ray Williams and his first wife of 39 years, Joya Capitola Lindsey Williams.
He is survived by his 2nd wife of 14 years, Mary Holloman Williams; son Gorden Stephen Williams and wife Marie Durant Williams of Daingerfield, Texas; daughter Cheryl Ann Williams Pharris and husband Kermit W. Pharris, Jr.; sister Nora Ann Williams Oneal and husband T. J. Oneal of Siloam Spring, Arkansas; sister Johnnie Ruth Williams Despino and husband Johnny Despino of Dry Prong, Louisiana; step-daughter Mary Kay Smith of Greenbriar, Arkansas; six grandchildren, four great-grand children, numerous nephews, nieces and special friends Leon and Bobbie Watkins of Hughes Springs.
