GAAR JR., GORDON CROSBY

Died 6 a.m. Monday, May 1, 1989, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 68, a native of Winn Parish and resident of Baton Rouge. He was a retired Pride High School teacher and coach. He was a U.S. Navy Seabee veteran of World War II and was injured in action. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., after 10 a.m. until religious services at noon Thursday, conducted by the Rev. Leslie Creel and the Rev. Thomas French. Burial in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.

Survived by wife, Hazel Jones Gaar; stepmother, Mrs. Frances Ford Gaar, Thibodaux; a daughter, Glenda Gaar Lofton, Ph.D., Baton Rouge; a son, David Gordon Gaar, M.D., Fort Myers, Fla.; two sisters, Katherine Womack, Dodson, and Evelyn Richardson, Thibodaux; a brother, William Gaar, Williamsburg, Va.; and six grandchildren, Bret Lofton, Lafayette, Bart Lofton, Baton Rouge, Ira, Noah, Laini and Micah Gaar, all of Fort Myers. Preceded in death by parents, Crosby and Anna Virginia Gaar.

Pallbearers will be Thomas, Bret and Bart Lofton, Bill Fletcher, Gary Thomas, John Osborn, Louis Richardson and Charles Fletcher. Honorary pallbearers are Willie Thomas, Richard Osborn, B.T. Karns, Ferris Parent, Ervin Monson, Harley Womack, Jack Richardson, Dr. William Williamson and Dr. John Hopper. He was a member of Jefferson Baptist Church, Fairfields Lodge No. 425, F&AM, Disabled American Veterans, VFW and Louisiana Retired Teacher's Association. He was a graduate of Northwestern State University and received a master's degree at LSU.
