G. E. Underwood Rites Set Today For 2 P.M.
Funeral services will be held today for Green E. (Ed) Underwood, 84, who died Friday morning in a local hospital after a long illness.
Mr. Underwood, a retired farmer, lived at 1204 Bennie Breece St., West Monroe. He was a native of Winn Parish.
Final rites will be conducted at the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home at 2 p.m. with the Revs. Britton Kelly and Filer Seal officiating.
Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Monroe under the direction of Hixson Brothers.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Ouida Boone Underwood, West Monroe; four sons, Marvin, Charles and Ronald Underwood, all of West Monroe, and G. E. Underwood Jr., Illinois; nine daughters, Mrs. Sara J. Lawrence, Mrs. Pauline Lawrence, Mrs. Gladys Gilbert, Mrs. Etta Lee Dupree, Misses Mary and Fay Underwood, all of West Monroe, Mrs. Audie Coughon, Winnsboro, Mrs. Annie Pearl Dupree, Baton Rouge, and Mrs. Joyce Peppers, Compton, Calif.; one brother, J. E. Underwood, West Monroe; one sister, Mrs. Liza Temple, Rayville; 33 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers will be Matson Temple, Clifford Calloway, Melvin Gilbert, Charles McPhail, Joe Gilbert and Henry Ross.
